Body Language – the art of communicating without words

  • Post author:

Body Language A Nonverbal Communication – Does it impact our communication?

Have you ever thought when you speak to someone, what creates the most impact on you – The words, the tone of voice, or the body language? If you observe, you will find that the person’s body language says that you notice first.

It is what happens during any meeting, job interview, or communication. A person’s body language communicates much more than his spoken words.

His body language can tell whether he is confident or not, speaking the truth or lying if he is nervous, and so on.

Impact Of Body Language In Communication

Body language is a skill; a lot of success in business communication depends on Body Language. As per Albert Mehrabian (1967), 55% of communication is body language, 38% of communication is tone, and 7% of communication is the actual words (Misunderstanding Section, line 2).

So, 93% of communication is unspoken words – which we use to give or withhold meaning from our terms.

To further understand Body Language’s importance, let us discuss some findings of a study made by Kristin Mashak. She surveyed 100 adults of the Midwest school district and came up with some conclusions.

Although it was performed with teachers, the same applies to other professions as well.

99% of respondents agree body language is essential in communication.

As body language constitutes 55% of communication, communication without body language is incomplete.

Imagine yourself speaking on the phone; telephonic communication has 38% tone and 7% actual words.

But you cannot see the person’s body language – his facial expressions, gestures, postures, and so on, you can interpret only a part of what the person is trying to communicate.

93% of respondents stated it is essential for adults to recognize their nonverbal communication to express more positive/negative emotions.

When one realizes the importance of body language, one can control their expressions and another body language when interacting with others.

They will be more careful to control negative emotions and will try to project more positive words.

Body Language For The Profession Of Teacher

The survey was conducted in the Midwest school district on 100 adults, including administrators, teachers, and other staff members.

Body language can be the right way of communicating with others.

It can create a positive and negative impact. To add on, according to a survey, 47% feel that gestures, movement, and mannerisms are Very Important; 46% feel critical, and 7% feel Important

So, 100% of people think body language is very crucial in any profession.
