Well! Don’t worry. We are here to help you with these questions. Let’s get started!

The Essential Things You Must Check As An Immigrating Student To Canada

  • Eye Checkup: One of the essential tips for immigrating students before arriving in Canada, you must have an eye checkup while in India or your native country because, in Canada, the cost of an eye checkup is around $70-$100. Secondly, if you need new glasses, they can cost anywhere from around $300 to $1000, plus it’s frustrating to go out in cold weather. There could be a snowstorm with a temperature of around -14 degrees Celsius. Another thing to add to this is that you have to pay in cash.

So please make sure you guys get your eye checkup done from India itself or from your native country itself.

  • Dental Checkup: Get your teeth clean if there is a cavity or root canal; get it fixed while in India or from your native country because in Canada, even a checkup will cost you over $100, and to get anything done, it can cost from $100-$2000. This is another critical medical tip for international students arriving in Canada.
  • Medication: The third and most critical medical tip is medication. If you are taking some medication, you all must know if you are allergic to Penicillin. Every time doctor wants to give you an antibiotic, they will ask you, “Are you allergic to Penicillin?” and you must be aware of that. One of the best things is to get your blood checkup done before moving to Canada. If you want to bring medicines with you, you should carry a doctor’s note with your name in your medicine envelope.

So these are the crucial things you should know if you are planning to come to Canada or International students arriving in Canada. These tips will be handy and a massive relaxation before heading to Canada.

What measures to take if anyone is having an allergy treatment on and he has to continue medication here in Canada? Also can we bring any general medication with us like pills for headache or fever medicine with us?

    1. MSA Mentor

Yes. You can bring any medicine along with a doctor’s note.
For long-term medications like allergy treatment, try to bring medication in good quantity, which could last a few months, considering the expiry date. Then after few months, you can get your medicines through a courier from your country.
The second option is to consult a doctor here and show him your present medicines. Then he can continue the treatment and prescribe you more medications. But this option could be expensive than the first one.
      I hope this helps!
