  • Post author:

Do you know that Emotional Intelligence will become a “must-have” skill in the next one to five years?

As per the research done by Capgemini Research Institute, 74% of supervisors believe that EI will become a ‘must-have’ skill. 76% of senior executives agree that due to AI & automation, the demand for EI skills will increase as employees will have a more client/people-facing role.

emotional intelligence skills

As we know, in today’s world of technological advancement, Artificial Intelligence and Automation have started taking away the roles of human beings. Also, due to the current pandemic situation, many employees have to work remotely from home.

These changes in the situation have brought in the need for a change in the supervisors’ attitude and perspective, whose primary job is to manage to get the job done by others. As per the same research by Capgemini, 76% of senior executives believe that Human roles will require employees to do more tasks that require emotional intelligence skills. Hence, managing them would require the supervisors to develop their Emotional Intelligence skills.

Emotional intelligence for supervisors

Managing a team and developing Emotional Intelligence will help supervisors in other aspects of their work responsibilities. As per Howard Davies, COO and prominent program directorFreeformers, a future of work consultancy, helping major organizations to achieve workforce agility and digital readiness, “A more emotionally intelligent workforce is likely to build better relationships with customers, either directly in their interactions or through the design of new products and services.” He further said, “I think when you have high emotional intelligence, you tend to be more honest and authentic. These qualities have far-reaching, positive impacts on the business and the workforce alike.”

Mid-Management benefits most from EI Skills.

Hence, it becomes essential for supervisors to develop their Emotional Intelligence skills. As per Capgemini‘s research, 82% of organizations feel mid-management can benefit the most from EI skills. It is the reason 32% of organizations have started conducting EI training for their middle management teams.

Where supervisors should use EI Skills

The supervisors’ essential role is to review their team’s performance and share positive and negative feedback. It requires a high level of consideration as they need to point out their team members’ mistakes without demotivating them. During this, having strong EI skills can play a significant role. As per Capgemini‘s research, currently, only 26% of organizations consider EI skills while providing feedback or appraising employees in non-supervisory positions. Supervisors and their organizations should benefit from higher retention once they start using EI skills during the performance review and feedback sharing.

Developing Emotional Intelligence

As per Capgemini‘s research, 77% of senior executives agree that most employees will need to evolve their skills base due to their automated role ultimately. Fortunately, unlike the Intelligence level, which will not develop after an age, one can learn Emotional Intelligence at any age. This skill can be acquired, mastered, and then used in professional as well as personal relationships. Moreover, Emotional Intelligence can also help in self-development. Knowledge about his own emotions, managing them, and motivating themselves, especially after a failure, can improve an individual’s life and propel him towards success.
